Genmaicha is also known as 'brown rice tea'. It is sometimes referred to as "popcorn" tea because a few grains may pop during the production, hence resemble the look of 'popcorn'. This type of tea was originally drunk by 'common' Japanese - the rice was added to reduce the cost of the tea. This tea is also known as 'people's tea'. Japanese Bancha with toasted rice.
